After anterior hip replacement surgery, it is necessary that you have to follow these precautions.
- No bending backward or trunk extension.
- No bridging.
- Do not extend your operated hip joint beyond a neutral position; this indicates you have not to bend your operated hip back more than you do in regular walking or hip extension.
- Do not lie face down or on your stomach.
- Don’t push your hips forward.
- Do not twist your surgical leg; rotate externally ( turn outwards).
- Do not cross your legs. Instead, use a pillow between legs when rolling.
- Do not stand while dressing; you could sit down at the edge of your mattress or chair.
- Never bend over, raise or cross legs while dressing.
- Use an aid while wearing shoes (a reacher or a long-handled shoehorn) or socks.
- when undressing, make sure you remove clothes from the surgical procedure side.
- Never sit exteded period in the same position; you could change position every half-hour interval.
- Always make sure your ft must be 15cm apart.
- Avoid using rocking chairs, cushion chairs, stools, or sofas. Instead, sit down in a firm chair with a straight back and armrests.
- Avoid sitting on chairs that are too low; use a pillow if essential.
- You could sleep on your non-operative side with pillows aligning your hips properly.
- It isn’t always unusual to feel tired or have trouble sleeping for the first three months after a surgical operation.
- Use a special bath seat for sitting inside the bath.
- Use a rubber mat on the bath or shower floor. Make sure to maintain the bathroom floor dry and clean.
- Never bend, squat, reach for anything while showering. Instead, use a shower sponge with long manage and have someone wash a part of your body that might be hard so that you can reach it.
- Make sure you use an elevated toilet seat. It will likely be challenging to stand up safely if the seat is too low.
- Typically ok to shower within 48-72 hours after your surgical treatment. You have a family member or friend to assist you within the beginning.
- Remember, your balance can be different especially getting used to your new joint.
- Do not swim, take baths or move in warm tubs for a few weeks.
- When ascending, step first with the unaffected leg.
- When descending, step first with the leg that you had a surgical procedure on lying in mattress.
- Do no longer sleep on the side of your new hip or your stomach. Make sure you place pillows in between your thighs in case you are sleeping on the other side.
Getting into/Driving a car
- Make sure you get into the car from street level, no longer from a curb or doorstep, and the car seat is not too low; use a pillow if required.
- Don’t go for long rides ; stop get and walk about every 2 hours.
