All About Health Care

P.R.I.C.E. Treatment Method:

P.R.I.C.E injury treatment method use initially for 48 – 72 hours right after the injury. Both surgical and nonsurgical medical treatments are used to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injuries. However, surgical treatment can be necessary. But not everybody who’s an ACL damage required an operation.

The acronym stands for:

Protection

The concept is the very first protection. The goal of safeguards is to avoid further damage to the area by protecting the injured structures.

The kind of protection varies depending on the injured area. The methods that can protect the injured area from further damage include an ace bandage, aluminum splint, sling, protective tape, and a brace. As an example, somebody who recently experienced an ankle sprain may initially apply an ankle brace. A good ankle brace protects the athlete from movements of inversion (movement with ankle/foot inwards) and eversion (movement with ankle/foot outwards). These motions could further damage the injured ligaments.

Rest

Pain is your body’s sign that something is wrong. When you’re hurt, stop doing an activity. Take a rest as much as possible for the initial two times. Doing such activity with moderate to severe ankle sprain even worsens damaged area and also delays recovery. Avoid putting weight on the injured area for 24 to 48 hours. Resting helps to prevent bruising.

Ice

Using cold treatments is effective, also referred to as cryotherapy, to deal with acute injuries. Ice recommend to minimize and reduce swelling as well as decreasing pain. There are lots of approaches to using cryotherapy at home. The most frequent & most convenient is quite a simple plastic bag of crushed ice placed over a paper towel on the affected area. You will need to protect your skin and limit cold exposure to 10 to 15minutes. Cycles of 10 to 15 minutes on and then 1 to 2 hours off are usually considered effective and safer.

Compression

What this means is the use of compression wrap in the injured area to counter inflammation or swelling. Wrap the affected region with the help of an elastic medical bandage (like an ACE bandage).

It should be snug, although not too tight – if it is too tight, it’ll interrupt the circulation. If the skin below the wrap becomes blue or feels cold, numb, or tingly, loosen the bandage. If these signs don’t fade away immediately, look for |immediate medical services.

Elevation

The elevation is the last component of the P.R.I.C.E. principle. The elevation is essential immediately post-injury. Elevation reduces the total amount of blood circulation in the affected region for the lower extremities. A person lies straight down and elevates the injured limb on pillows. The elevation can accomplish by positioning the affected area above the level of the heart.

Following the P.R.I.C.E injury treatment method or principles can be beneficial to reduce the inflammation within an injured region, to returns to daily activities.

What injuries can RICE treat?

In fact, It is the most useful for mild to moderate injuries. Medical practitioners often suggest the RICE technique for:

  • strains
  • sprains
  • bruises
  • other soft tissue injuries

People frequently sustain sprains by tripping, dropping, or through unexpected twisting motions. In case of repetitive movements and lifting heavy items in the wrong way can lead to strains.
